Using their skills critical thinking skills, deductive reasoning, and team work, the Junior Crime Detectives work in partnerships or teams to solve the murder mystery.

Everything you need for your Junior Detectives is included in this kit including 6 DIFFERENT case files with 6 DIFFERENT murderers for the SAME murder mystery. The 6 cases files focus on the same murder scenario, same victim, same suspects, and use the same crime scene photos. The differences in the cases files include: times of death, DNA fingerprint card, and which suspect is guilty. The case files are NOT 6 different murders scenarios. The variance between case files is designed to keep students from copying each other's results or if a student blurts out info it does not ruin it for others.

Each case file has it's own police report, Medical Examiners report, DNA fingerprint evidence card, and results page in the PowerPoint. This activity includes fill set of printables, crime scene photos, and a Powerpoint to use with the class to set up the case and review the results. The answers to both the TOD calculations and the murderer are included in the PowerPoint portion of the activity.

Included with this activity is a 3-page teacher guide with prep plans, grading guidance, timeline for executing the murder mystery, and suggestions on how to extend the lesson.

This activity can be completed in 1 or 2 classes given students are able to complete some of the work without a pre-lesson. This murder is designed to use their analytical skills and reasoning process more than their science and math accuracy.
