What educators are saying

Love these so much! Students refer to them all the time when spelling or if they forget what sound a letter combo makes!
This is an excellent resource! I have created a sound wall using posters, which students refer to often throughout the day to help them with reading and writing activities.

Description

* NEW UPDATE: November 2023.

Use this set of 102 French phonics posters to help students learn those tricky high-frequency sounds in French. This resource is ideal for a French Immersion or French first language classroom. The articulation mouths found on the displays help support students in retaining and learning to read unfamiliar sounds on their own. A sound wall allows for students to match graphemes (letter sounds) to corresponding phonemes (sounds) by looking at the visual, the articulation mouth and determining meaning. These skills form the foundation to reading and writing.

Why choose a sound wall in your classroom?
A sound wall supports students to identify phonemes in words so that they can apply these to their reading. These cards help you to teach your students explicitly the sounds that they hear in words. At the beginning stages of reading and writing and as students develop their pronunciation in French, they recognize the way their mouth moves as they say sounds. Once students recognize the patterns these sounds make, they can connect the speech to print. These cards are colour coded with the same background colour to connect linking sounds, making it easier for your students to identify patterns.

Sound walls with articulation mouths are effective in supporting student pronunciation, reading and writing, but in particular during COVID-19, where teachers are teaching remotely or need to wear a mask. It can become a challenge for students to see, hear and pronounce the correct sound through a mask. The sound wall and articulation mouths on these cards will help your students to recognize mouth pairings to graphemes and phonemes, providing extra intervention without immediate teacher assistance.

How can I use these cards?
These cards can be displayed in your classroom as a sound wall. They can be used for reference throughout the day when targeting sounds in structured whole group reading or writing literacy instruction. They can also be used in guided or 1-1 intervention. Print these cards smaller for games or reference in small group work.

These cards contain sound pairings, blends and silent letters. They are customizable with or without the mouth, with or without the background and the choice between a black letter font or white.
