Description

This is a set of 30 relations, one per 8-1/2 by 11 sheet of paper/cardstock. Some of the relations are functions; some are not. The relations come in 4 formats: graphs (both discrete and continuous), tables, mappings, and sets of ordered pairs. TEKS Aligned: A12A, 8.5G

I use these cards in multiple ways to ask the students if each relation is a function or not and what is it's domain and/or range. Here are some suggestions for use:

  • You could post them around the room
  • I have stood at the door, one card at a time and asked each student one at a time whether the relation I was showing them was a function or not. If they got it right, they could come in. If they didn't, then they went to the end of the line and tried again. I did this every day until everyone was getting them right.
  • I've put the students in groups and given them one of each to decide if they were functions or not.
  • You could give each student one card and have them group themselves on the side of the room based upon whether their card was a function or not.
  • They could be used as a sorting activity.

The usefulness of these cards is limited only by your imagination. Laminate for longer use. 30 pages total.
