George Washington Carver is famous for his work as a scientist and botanist, and discovering many uses for peanuts, including popularizing peanut butter, helping farmers who were reliant on cotton plants.

While he did extensively research and promote the use of peanuts in various products, including peanut butter, the credit for inventing peanut butter as we know it goes to Marcellus Gilmore Edson. George Washington Carver's contributions to peanut research focused on crop rotation, soil improvement, and creating alternative uses for peanuts.
