Description
Welcome and get to know students at the beginning of the year with these 7 activities. The Google Classroom digital version is great for schools starting online, and the printable PDFs can be used for in person classes. These are suitable for middle and high school math.
You can assign all 7 activities, or choose the ones that best fit your class. These are perfect for back to school.
Activities include:
- Alphabet about Myself
- Numbers about Myself
- Get to Know Me Picture Collage
- Making Lists
- Letter to Future Self
- Math Feelings
- Math I Remember
Each activity has an instruction page and a page for students to fill in. The first 5 activities will help you get to know your students. If used during distance learning, the student responses could be printed and displayed for students to see when they return to school. You may also want to complete these sheets yourself to help students get to know you!
The last activity (Math I Remember) helps you get a glimpse of what your students know. Students are given a series of prerequisite topics and instructed to pick out the ones they remember and ones they do not. 7 sheets are included with skills needed for 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th grade math, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2. A blank sheet is included if you would like to write your own topics for students. You can select the sheet(s) appropriate for your students and delete the others. (Note the small number at the bottom right corner of these pages. For example, “5” denotes topics most students should know before entering 5th grade.) Blank templates of this activity are included if you want to customize the topics or use it for other subjects.
Students will need Google accounts to access the digital file. A PDF version is also provided. These can be printed if needed for students to use without technology.
