I used this with my GT students mid-year when we added in our new GT students. It gave students an opportunity to get to know each other outside of the regular classroom interactions as well as across homeroom classes.
These autobiographical life maps turned out better than I could have even imagined. My second grade gifted students have loved this project!
Description
Wake up the memories of your gifted and talented students and use them to create an autobiographical life map. This life map will help your students visualize their life journey (past, present, and future) and teach them the power of autobiographical thinking and metaphorical representation.
Students will begin by viewing a PowerPoint (included) on this type of thinking. The PowerPoint will guide them through the steps of brainstorming, metaphorical representation and symbolism of their lives, and the creation of a work of art to show their thinking. This mini-unit promotes affective skills such as self-awareness, identity, and creative expression.
This product includes:
*Teacher Plans - with outcomes, essential questions and understandings, and a guide to 21st century skills used in the mini-unit
*Student graphic organizers to guide thinking
*Assessment tools (formative and summative)
*20-slide PowerPoint, which has actual examples of autobiographical life maps created by my students. (Important Note: The PowerPoint is READ ONLY and may not be edited, printed, or saved outside the product folder. When you open the PowerPoint and it asks for a password, select READ ONLY and you will be able to view and project the PowerPoint from your computer. It will continue to be saved in your product folder as READ ONLY.)
