Description
This workbook covers the Grade 2 Global Communities unit in the NEW 2023 Ontario Social Studies curriculum (People and Environments).
It covers various topics such as map skills, continents, oceans, and the equator. It further explores Canada, comparing climate, wildlife, natural features, homes, and recreation. It includes information on specific Canadian communities in Ontario, Yukon, Nova Scotia, and British Columbia, including a contemporary FNMI community (Saugeen First Nation).
The workbook introduces countries around the world, including the United States, India, Finland, Brazil, China, Egypt, Kenya, and Australia. Each country section includes a passport activity. Comparisons between different countries and communities are also explored.
There is a variety of readings, long and short answer questions, creative writing activities, and drawing prompts included to create a varied workbook suitable for many learning styles.
To support assessment practices, Ontario curriculum expectations are clearly identified on each page. A quiz is included at the end of the workbook.

B1. describe some similarities and differences in the ways in which people in two or more communities in different parts of the world meet their needs and have adapted to the location, climate, and physical features of their regions
B2. use the social studies inquiry process to investigate aspects of the interrelationship between the natural environment, including the climate, of selected communities, including at least one contemporary First Nation, Métis, or Inuit community, and the ways in which people in those communities live
B3. identify and locate various physical features and selected communities around the world, including at least one contemporary First Nation, Métis, or Inuit community, and describe some aspects of people’s ways of life in those communities
