What educators are saying

This is a great hands-on activity for students. My students enjoyed the papercraft. The information on the Globe Theater was engaging. I will definitely use it again the next time I read a Shakespeare play.
Another great resource for the beginning of our Macbeth unit. I didn't use the paper Globe Theatre this year, but I have in the past. Time got away from us this year. Seeing the new Globe also inspired students, especially those who are travelling to Europe next year.

Description

Launch your study of any Shakespearean play with this lecture and hands-on activity that will get your students excited about working with The Bard and learning about his Globe Theatre (Globe Theater). The first half of the lesson features an 18-slide overview presentation in Prezi, PDF, and Google Slides versions. The second half of the lesson (optional) encourages students to build their own miniature Globe Theatre. They’ll need glue, scissors, and a steady hand to make a theater worthy of the legendary playwright. For added fun, I host a Globe Theatre “Beauty Contest” once students are finished with their creations, giving a small candy treat or bonus points to the three finishers who do the best job.

This full-class activity (about 20-minutes of lecture and another 20 minutes or so for theater construction + homework time) works for every grade, from sixth to twelfth. My seniors, in fact, are surprisingly enthusiastic when I use this to launch our study of Hamlet. High school upperclassmen are still big kids who enjoy a rare chance to “get crafty” in class, too. The model construction (all paper craft links are online) is a puzzle that will challenge all levels.

Package includes:

18-slide deck (Prezi, PDF, and Google Slides versions)

1-page PDF handout with links to paper cut-out craftivity and instructor tips/video links to help teach kids how to construct their paper theaters, if needed
