This is a fun gummy bear lab that I use with my students to reinforce the steps of the scientific process. Gummy bears are placed in 4 different solutions (water, salt water, vinegar, baking soda water) and we chart and graph the amazing results! This lab reinforces the following concepts:

-Scientific investigations begin with a question.
-Scientists use tools and technologies to make accurate measurements and observations.
-Scientists use drawings, sketches, and models as a way to communicate ideas.
-Scientists search for cause and effect relationships to explain natural events.

Including in this packet:
-detailed directions and colorful photos of the actual experiment
-Predictions student worksheet
-experiment mat to laminate
-scientific process student worksheet: observe, question, hypothesize, experiment, conclude
-photo of results
-student charts and bar graphs to record data on – length in centimeters and mass in grams
-Time lapse photos - 5 intervals, results shown using 2 brands
-an explanation of the science behind this fun experiment! This is not an example of osmosis!

I do this lab every year with my 4th graders, they love this experiment and I am sure your kids will too!

Answer keys are included :)

*I use Haribo brand gummy bears. Results will vary depending on the brand you use. Check packaging for possible allergens! I do not let my students eat the gummy bears, they are for experimentation only!
