Description
Looking to engage your 4th or 5th grade students during October? These Halloween upper elementary activities are the perfect way to get them excited about practicing their skills! Your kids will want to work on these all month long!
This bundle includes three resources: Favorite Candy Guided Research and Presentation, Hocus Pocus Movie Math and Viewing Guide, and 2-digit by 2-digit Multi-Digit Multiplication Math Mystery. They can be used all throughout the month, for a fun and festive math class.
In the Halloween Math Mystery, students are asked to solve a mystery and given clues to do so. In order to reveal the clues, they must solve 2x2 multiplication problems, which are printed and hung around the room. Each clue can be cross-referenced with their evidence list, eventually solving the case. Multi-Digit Multiplication is one of my favorite spiral-back topics, as it is constantly used throughout a student's math career.
In the Favorite Candy Research Project, students choose a candy to research, and are given a guided list of questions that they must find the answer to. Suggested search terms are provided, to make finding their information a bit easier. Once students have completed all of their research, they will then be asked to create a Google Slides presentation. A template is included for them to fill in their information, as well a sample for you to model for them. Students will absolutely love learning about their favorite candy and sharing what they find with the class.
The Hocus Pocus Viewing Guide includes math questions to go along with the movie. Two difficulty levels are included (one for grades 4-5, one for 6-8), and the upper elementary school level utilizes basic operations with multi digits, as well as simple calculations including things like time. This resource also includes comprehension questions and a bonus growth mindset worksheet.
This activities are sure to keep your students excited about learning all month long, while offering you low-prep activities to fill in the gaps in your October lesson plans.
