What educators are saying

Great resource to utilize a movie in class. It was ready to print and easy to follow for the students.
I used this as a chance for students to catch up after Washington DC. It was great review problems that kept the students engaged, but not thinking too hard.

Description

This Hidden Figures movie math and viewing guide activity is perfect for your middle or high school class during Black History Month or all year! It includes story-related math questions, a comprehension question viewing guide, and discussion questions, and characterization and growth mindset worksheets.

The resource includes ten movie math questions based on Hidden Figures, which are aligned with the sixth grade curriculum. This makes them appropriate for grades 6-8 and beyond, providing a great spiral back review for older students. Topics include percents, ratios, proportions, rates, and fractions.

Additionally, a 20 question comprehension worksheet is included. This is perfect to give to your students to complete while they are watching the movie. After the movie is over, additional activities include a growth mindset worksheet, where students must identify instances in which characters used a growth vs. fixed mindset, as well as discussion questions and a characterization worksheet.

This activity is totally no-prep, and is great for the celebrating Black History Month, for sub-work while you are out of the classroom, or for a relaxed day. It is a great way for students to enjoy a couple of hours of movie fun, while still practicing their skills. Answer keys are included.
