In this highly engaging Valentine's Day Holiday lesson, students complete an included reading assignment and 2 additional activities that clarify the history and answer the questions behind Saint Valentine's Day!
*This lesson is geared toward upper elementary (4-5) through middle school (6-8), but can be modified to work with lower and upper grades.**
First, students read the "Valentine's Day: How much do you REALLY know about this holiday" handout to understand the life and times of Valentine, why he is honored, and how he came to be remembered.
Students then read the "Questions and Answers" page to understand five major myths/traditions behind St. Valentine's Day.
Finally, students complete 2 activities: a close-reading crossword puzzle (answer key is included!) and a "news cast assignment" where students fill the shoes of Saint Valentine and must set the record straight regarding his life and times!
This is a great, short activity to focus on for the St. Valentine's Day holiday! Enjoy!
