How to Make a Rainstick

This PowerPoint presentation contains 78 slides and close to 100 images of rainsticks, and how they’re made. The presentation takes a look at how authentic cactus rainsticks are made commercially, as well as a variety of home-made versions. You will also learn how to create your own “authentic looking” rainstick using everyday household and classroom items. The process is detailed through 66 individual slide pictures showing every step along with written narration in the margins. A supply list is provided, and different ways to embellish your finished rainstick are also addressed. Other individual slides are dedicated to: what a rainstick is, the history of cultures that used them, a link to a wonderful YouTube video, pictures of cacti (both live, dead, and prepared for production, and much more. I’ve used this presentation / project for students of all ages and they unanimously love the playable instrument that they’ve created.
