"If" Poem Figurative Language Task Cards -Differentiated Tiered Activity

These task cards are used with the poem "If" by Rudyard Kipling. They explore the figurative language in the poem. I use these in a station/ center with my students.

Included: pages with the questions on the task cards - differentiated on three learning levels:

Tier 1: contains scaffolding in vocabulary, writing, and academic level.
Tier 2: less scaffolding.
Tier 3: contains no scaffolding.

You have many options with these pages:

• I give all groups the task cards. I give my tier 1 students the tier one sheet to help them complete the task cards.

• You could also give your students the sheets to complete on their level - individually or in pairs.

• Do a close reading station, and each group will have a tiered sheet on their appropriate level to complete together. The poem is included, so they can easily annotate as they close read together.
