Description

Looking for something to enhance and make worthwhile your 'read to self' time in the classroom? Are you exhausted by students who do not commit to books? We have the answer for your independent reading instruction that will also instill the love of reading in your classroom!!!! With this 33 page document you will receive a monthly program where your students will deepen their understanding of what they are reading through close and critical responses to the text. You (the teacher) will gain an authentic understanding of your readers that goes beyond data!

In every packet your students will:

  • Write 4 summaries (for each 1/4th of the book)
  • Find text features including characters, setting, types of irony, transition words, figurative language, etc (for each 1/4th of the book)
  • Identify the Point of View and practice writing in First Person POV
  • Identify the 4 types of conflict
  • Identify text connections (text to text/self/world)
  • Identify important parts of the plot (protagonist, antagonist, foreshadowing, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution)
  • Identify genre and prove with text evidence
  • Write a constructed response identifying the theme
