Description

Students cut out the variables from the instructions page then tape/glue them into the Independent Variables/Dependent Variables table. Variables come in pairs/from the same situation, but are completely mixed up on the page they cut them from. The direction page includes an example.

Use this activity in your Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, or Algebra 2 class to help students practice determining if a variable is independent or dependent. Made on a full page of paper, but can be used in an interactive notebook by decreasing page size or having students write the headings on the second page themselves.

Encourage students to sort all the pairs before gluing them! Some are closely related.

Fully editable Word version with answer key.

Some variables/situations are written with a rural audience in mind, but should transfer well for all backgrounds.
Variable pairs include:
IND: the hours worked / DEP: how much money you made
IND: number of chickens owned / DEP: eggs collected daily
IND: hours spent shooting your bow / DEP: your score at an archery competition
IND: guests invited to your barbecue / DEP: amount of food you buy

Please remember to leave feedback! =)
