What educators are saying

Students used these for an art project. These were appealing to students who wanted to do more detailed work.
My students enjoyed working on this activity. It went well with the unit we were working on. There were no errors and it didn't take much time for me to assemble.

Description

This is a pack of 21 BLANK (black and white) hand-drawn insects. They are full-page printable worksheets that can be used for hundreds of ideas in your classroom, across all grades and subjects! The insects are drawn realistically, rather than in a cartoon fashion.

Check out the previews on the right and scroll down for a few ideas of how to use these templates in your classroom. These would be fun and meaningful activities to incorporate into a Science, Social Studies, or Language Arts unit on insects! What fun coloring sheets as well!

Language Arts: Write a story or poem inside or around the insect. Use the insect as an illustration in your own book. Do a research project on the animal and use the printable as a note-taking sheet.

Science: Label the parts of the insect. Draw the insect's habitat. Write details in or around the insect about the lifestyle and eating habits. Create a food chain using several insects and string.

Social Studies: Research the current topics around your insect. Is it frequently in the news? Being used to help society in some way? Endangered? Create a large habitat mural and allow students to place the insects in the correct section of the habitat (trees, ground, air, etc.)

Art: Explore different art materials to create texture and shading.

Math: Take a poll to see which insect is the class favorite (or least favorite!). Use the insect printouts to make a giant bar graph. Use multiple printouts to represent proportions and ratios (ex 1 ant to every 8 bumblebees).

Classroom: Determine each student's favorite insect, write his/her name on the insect, and place it on the desk as a name plate.

I love drawing. If you see there is an insect that you REALLY want that is not included in this pack, please just let me know and I will be happy to add it for you.

Thank you!
