Use this PowerPoint to show your students and your colleagues what critical thinking skills are and how they are used in real life and in reading across all subject areas! Get the kids THINKING about THINKING!

I created this PowerPoint for two reasons- to share with my colleagues and to share with my students.

I plan to use this PowerPoint to introduce or revisit what Critical Thinking Skills look like. The beginning of the show has the viewers (students or teachers) think about the word itself and then about the meaning. It allows for discussion of the meaning and then applies it to real-life examples. For example, it asks you how a golfer uses critical thinking skills. Once students realize that this is not some concept that they will learn and then simply forget, they will key in to what you are talking about because they know WHY they are learning it. Focus on that first—then show them (with the help of the final six slides) how to apply that to reading.

I plan to use this at the beginning of the year, but I can also project the slides from time to time DURING a reading assignment or discussion. It can be used with any book. For a buck---it’s a handy tool that you can use for years to come!
