What educators are saying

This was an activity that was easy for students of varying learning abilities to access and use. Easy to implement in a single class period.
It was a good challenge for students to think more critically about who and what has influenced our Constitution and to compare how the history books do not mention the Iroquois contributions. Students were engaged and enjoyed comparing the two Constitutions.

Description

In this Native American Iroquois Confederacy government activity, students investigate how the Iroquois Confederacy and the Great Law of Peace (Mohawk, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Seneca, and Tuscarora) influenced the Founding Fathers and the United States Constitution! Students examine a variety of primary sources as they come to understand how the United States framework for government is (in part) due to the government established under the "Great Law of Peace" that governed over the Iroquois Confederacy.

Students compile their learning in a brief essay at the conclusion of the activity! A key is included!
