Description

This collaboration poster engages students to work together, to learn about Japanese region and prefecture names, and to grow interest in geographic features of Japan!

This map includes 30 pieces to be assembled and students will enjoy colouring each piece. After all the pieces are put together, you will get a beautiful wall poster for your classroom!

Your students are required to read colour names in hiragana and identify them.

  • Get familiar with geographic features of Japan ( 8 regions and 47 prefectures' names and locations, neighbor countries and seas around Japan)
  • Find the details of the features in each prefecture.

  • Map poster x 2 versions (kanji and hiragana): These show the final image of the collaborative poster in one page.
  • List of prefectures: List of the 8 regions and 47 prefectures in kanji, hiragana, and alphabet along with their features.
  • Map sheets x 30 sheets x 2 versions (kanji and hiragana): 
    • Each version includes 6 rows and 5 columns for a total of 30 pieces. 
    • The features of each prefecture are shown with icons.
    • Instructions are written in English. ( English proofread by a native speaker  )
    • The colour codes are written in hiragana in both kanji and hiragana version.
    • The Kanji version has furigana above kanji words and the hiragana version has alphabet above the prefecture names.


■ Size

  • The final poster size is approx. 117cm x 97.5cm / 46 inch x 38.4 inch. The exact size will vary depending on the paper size and printer setting.
  • Each poster piece fits on a standard letter size paper (8.5 x 11 inch). You can print on A4 size papers, as well. Please adjust your printer setting.
  • Click here to get sample pages. You can print them out to see how the square fit in the paper and the printer setting you use.

■ How to use
You will need:

  • Colour pencils
  • Scissors
  • Tape

  1. Choose either kanji version or hiragana version to print out.
  2. Have students colour the map piece following the colour code.
  3. Have students cut out the square map pieces.
  4. Assemble the map pieces with tape.
  5. Hang up the poster in your classroom!

■ Vocabulary introduced 

  • 8 names of regions in Japan
  • 47 names of prefectures in Japan
  • 5 country names: 日本、中国、ロシア、韓国、北朝鮮
  • 2 sea names: 太平洋、日本海
  • 11 colour names: むらさき、あお、みどり、きみどり、きいろ、オレンジ、あか、ピンク、みずいろ、はいいろ、しろ (In both kanji version and hiragana version, the colour names are written in hiragana. )
