Akatonbo: Japanese song lesson set

This lesson set is a wonderful resource to add to your music collection. Use it to teach students about pentatonic music with slides showing the solfege, teach triple meter through the melody and percussion accompaniment parts, and sing it in a round/canon.

The song, "Akatonbo" (or "Akatombo"), is sung by children all over Japan, and is perfect for middle elementary through middle school age students. It is a beautiful song about a dragonfly at sunset and would be great for fall or any time of year!

Slides to teach various musical concepts, as well as background information and lyrics translation and pronunciation (in both pdf and powerpoint formats)

Ame Ame: Japanese song lesson set

This lesson set is a wonderful resource to add to your music collection. Use it to teach students about pentatonic music with slides showing the solfege, teach compound meter in 6/8 through the melody and percussion accompaniment parts along with lesson extension ideas, and learn the Japanese language and culture.

The song, "Ame, Ame", is sung by children all over Japan, and is perfect for elementary age students. It is a simple, upbeat song about the joys of splashing in rain puddles and includes a comparison to the song with similar themes, "Rain, Rain, Go Away".

Sakura: Japanese song lesson set

This lesson set is a wonderful resource to add to your music collection. Use it to teach students about pentatonic and/or minor music with slides showing the solfege, create an Orff ensemble piece with barred percussion borduns, teach low C, E, and F on recorder, identify same and different musical phrases, and learn the Japanese language and culture.

The song, "Sakura", is the most famous Japanese song around the world. This lesson set includes everything you need to apply the song to a variety of concepts in your classroom, as well as information about Japan and the importance of sakura (cherry blossoms) in the culture.

This set includes:

Visuals to teach: the text with it's pronunciation and translation

a recorder harmony part (low C, E, and F)
