What educators are saying
We reviewed words that they needed to know before the state test. I really think this helped build their confidence!
Description
ILEAP/LEAP Academic Vocabulary Review (3rd, 4th, 5th)
This vocabulary word list is a compilation of Vocabulary Workshop, Common Core State Standards Grade Academic Vocabulary List, and other research based iLEAP/LEAP practice Assessments.
This list was created out of a need for our third, fourth, and fifth graders to be more aware of the vocabulary words used on our state standardized tests!
My Problem:
Students are not answering the Read and Respond, Proofreading, Constructed Response, Writing Prompts, or the Information Resources questions correctly due to a lack of Vocabulary knowledge.
My Solution:
Because students must be familiar with the testing vocabulary on the iLEAP/ LEAP test, I compiled a list of vocabulary words and definitions for the students to learn and apply to the test questions we are reviewing right now. These words were strategically chosen from the Common Core State Standards Academic Vocabulary List (This came from the Louisiana Department of Education), Vocabulary Workshop Books, and three additional research based iLEAP/LEAP practice books and assessments we are using to review testing skills with our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.
Here a few examples of the words I included on this list:
Conclude: To decide after much thinking
Expository Writing: Writing that informs, describes, or explains
Compare and Contrast: Look at the ways things are different and how they are alike
Antique: old
Specific Details: fully and clearly expressed facts
Observe: watch closely
Reject: to refuse
Poem: a group of words containing meaning and rhythm
