In order for my centers to be effective and my center time to have the biggest impact, I keep my math centers very consistent throughout the year. The centers themselves (directions and how to play) don’t change, only the content does.

I will occasionally introduce a new game (Spoons) and use seasonal centers to spice things up a bit. However, for the most part, my centers are consistent and my students know how to complete their centers like the back of their hands.

Since I use such consistent centers, I needed a set of centers to use at the beginning of the year. So, this math center starter pack was born!

About the Free Math Centers

This resource includes six complete math centers that review a few carefully selected 2nd grade math skills. You may choose to use all of them or only the ones that fit your needs and your students’ needs.

The math centers I have included are all math centers I have personally used with my students. In my TeachersPayTeachers store, I have complete sets of these math centers that cover all of the standards. Ideally, this math center starter pack is meant to be used with those centers.

Using the centers in this starter pack in conjunction with the full resource centers (available for purchase) will start the students off on the right path and allow you to get all of your centers introduced in the first month of school.

Here are the full resources available that are available for purchase:

1.) Roll and Answer Math Games

2.) Math Choice Boards

3.) Puzzles like the ones found in my HUGE Standards Based Math Center Bundle (Includes over 70 Centers!) (I use these centers as a wildcard center)

4.) Math Sorts

5.) Math Task Cards **The paid sets are PRINTABLE only***

6.) Error Analysis Math Tasks

This math center starter pack allows me to:

1.) Introduce all of my consistent math centers in the first two weeks of school.

2.) Teach and reteach the center expectations in a meaningful way (using the actual centers the students will be using all year).

3.) Ensure my students know exactly how to complete each center (quality and quantity).

4.) Clear up any misconceptions about my center expectations

How is this math center starter pack different from my complete grade level sets?

1.) It includes review skills from the grade level below.

2.) It does not include any tricky skills. The content is straightforward.

By using review skills that are straightforward to introduce your math centers, you can ensure that your students are focusing on learning the procedures and expectations of math centers, and not struggling with the content. Productive struggle has its place but not when you are really wanting the students to master the format of instruction/practice.

**The math centers are exclusive to this set. They were created specifically for this starter pack.**

I wanted to offer this starter pack for free because I believe that much in the value of starting your students off on the right foot!
