Description

This Promethean flipchart for Activ Board is a very useful tool for teachers or school counselors in teaching guidance lessons or establishing classroom management. The flipchart opens with several pictures and students are asked to brainstorm as to what these pictures have in common, the teacher would then remove the bar revealing the word "leaders." The next slide lists daily objectives and critical thinking questions to go with the objectives. Next, a discussion is open on what constitutes a leader. Students as a whole, individually, in pairs, or in groups are to brainstorm what they think makes a leader. After, the teacher removes the bars and reveals what a leader is. Next, the teacher is invited to read the book "I am Responsible!" which is an excellent alignment to the lesson, but this is completely optional. The next activity gives students a chart in which they are to list leaders they know in the first column, then in the second column they are to list what makes them leaders. Again, there are a variety of ways to administer this activity: teachers may assign this individually as a journal activity, have the students break into pairs or groups to complete, or the teacher may just do this activity whole-class. Next, is a paper-page titled "rules." If this is the first week of school, this is a good opportunity for teachers to introduce the rules and consequences of the classroom for the first time. If this lesson is done after the first week of school, the teacher may have students recall the rules and consequences as a refresher course to reinforce classroom management. Next, students are assigned to their shoulder partners and are to participate together in a leadership activity in which the students are their partners are now leaders of the school and are assigned locations of the school in which they will create rules for the locations. Last is a review page in which students are to summarize what they've learned and the teacher can remove the bars to help with closure of the lesson.

*PLEASE NOTE: On slides with shapes, those are "blinders" that you may move out of the way to reveal the content. They are in place so that students may initially brainstorm, and then the teacher reveals what's behind the blinders.

*Optional: The book "I am Responsible!" aligns well with this lesson if you have access to it. If you do not, you may still teach with just the flipchart without any supplements. It stands on its own :)
