Great resource! Any kind of stations activity where my kids can move around the room is a big yes for me. I liked the sources chosen and the handout that went along with the sources. Thank you for a great product!

INCLUDED WITH YOUR PURCHASE:

  • Vocabulary Matrix: Four tier-two and tier-three vocabulary words related to the Lewis and Clark expedition are including for students to define and work with before analyzing the documents.

  • Background and Directions: The lesson is broken down into three parts: background, primary source analysis, and writing. Directions for each component are included to ensure student understanding before the lesson begins.

  • Primary Source Documents: Six primary source documents focused on the Lewis and Clark expedition are included. Each document contains authentic journal entries written by Lewis and Clark during the expedition. The primary sources also directly relate to the question students will answer after completing their analysis: Did the Lewis and Clark expedition achieve its goals? The primary source documents are all one page in size. They can be blown up to a larger size, projected on a laptop/ipad, or multiple copies of each document can be made for each station.

  • Data Collection Page:  As students analyze each of Lewis and Clark’s journal entries, they will record evidence of Jefferson’s goals (animals, plants, geography, Native Americans) on a data collection page. When students are finished analyzing the primary sources, they will be able to use their data collection page to answer the DBQ.

  • Prewriting Organizer: After analyzing the primary source documents, students can use the paragraph outline to organize information in preparation for answering the document-based question.

  • DBQ Writing Rubric: The writing rubric provides students with clear expectations and guidelines for answering the DBQ.
