Long Ago and Today: Change over time

The activities provided allow students to demonstrate their
knowledge of change over time. The sequencing activities include
changes in : clothing, cooking, transportation, and written
communication. Also included is a sequence showing changes in
people over time. The examples used are simplified snapshots of
change over time in these categories intended to introduce or reinforce this concept for young learners.

Examples used are North American/ Western European centric.


Clothing: Iron Age, 1800s, 1950s and present day

Cooking: open fire, fire in hearth, 1800s stove, and modern oven

Transportation: horseback, horse and carriage, turn of the century
automobile, and modern van

Writing: stone tablet with hammer and chisel, quill and pressed
paper, pencil and loose-leaf, and electronic tablet

People: baby, toddler, school student, graduate, and working
professional
