Summarizing is a life-long skill. Our students will enter the real world soon and will find themselves having to summarize many different types of work for employers, employees, and even clients. It's essential that we teach them this valuable skill.
This pack focuses on summarizing nonfiction pieces. Students will have to identify the main ideas, paraphrase, and summarize an article as a whole. It includes an activity for using unbiased words (recognizing word connotations), and clear examples for citing the author and using both MLA and APA style formats.
Includes step-by-step directions for a multiple-paragraph summary, as well as a template for a one-paragraph summary. This is a NO PREPARATION NECESSARY product. All you have to do is just print it out, and you are good to go! Perfect for sub plans, too!
It aligns with the Common Core State Standards for Informative/Explanatory writing, but can be used with any expository writing curriculum because the skills are the same.
Appropriate for ALL content areas: history, English, science, math, business, careers, health, and any class where students are asked to summarize an article.
