What educators are saying

Fun and engaging activity, very easy to use. My fourth graders loved it, and then used it to be coding buddies with younger classes. This is a FANTASTIC resource!

Description

This coding unplugged activity is one of many that I am creating to use in my STEM classroom! We do these coding challenges about once a week. They are great for teaching sequencing and logical reasoning to students. There are no right or wrong answers, and many different solutions will work! You could also rotate these challenges through a Maker Space or science center. I store everything in a dollar store gift bag or plastic tub for each individual coding unplugged challenge.

This color square challenge is a great first time coding challenge! You can extend it by having students work on making the critters of each of the other students in the classroom (we do these on indoor recess).

This pack contains just about everything you need to do this challenge! You will need the following items:

Materials: (per classroom)

Plastic color tile squares (1 inch size) or crayons to color squares

One inch grid paper sheets

Coding charts

There is one challenge for students to complete first so they learn how to do the coding sequence included in this pack as well as a blank grid and coding chart so that your students can make their own critters!
