Martin Luther King I Have A Dream Smartboard MLK

This Smartboard product will teach your students about Martin Luther King Jr.!

This product has background information for you and the students, hyperlinks to 5 educational videos about MLK that are kid friendly (along with the link to his I Have A Dream speech), and has interactive activities as well as sheets you can print out! Pair these activities with read aloud books from your class or school library, invite members of the community to come in who can speak to this very important holiday so that the students can not only understand the history or MLK, but also can learn about current events, progress made and setbacks encountered as well as make connections to how they can be part of positive change in the world.

• Background Information Slides (2 slides) about MLK. A great time saver to have this important information right at your fingertips!
• Famous MLK Quotes - A summarized list of memorable quotes to teach your kids.
• Video Slide - 5 short videos about MLK and Rosa Parks to use as an introduction to your unit or to use throughout the study.
• Bubble Map Work as a class to fill in facts/information about MLK. You can clone the slide and use as an introduction to see what kids know about MLK and then as a conclusion of your unit. Students can then compare and contrast what they knew at the outset and what they learned during the unit.
• MLK Birthday Calendar Learn about his birthday - students use their calendar skills to locate his birthday and drag a dove onto the 3rd Monday of January. (I have included the calendar slides for 2024, 2025 so you can easily use this product for the next 2 years, and after that I will continue to update this slide so you don't have to update the calendar dates. Just go to your purchases in TpT and click to update when necessary.
• "Fill in the Blank Slide" - drag and drop the correct answer which is supported with picture cues.
• "Glow in the Dark" fact sheet. Drag the white box around the screen to discover hidden facts about MLK.
• Venn Diagram (4 slides) Compare/contrast MLK with Mahatma Ghandi, Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela and then have students compare/contrast MLK with themselves. If your district has a subscription to Brain Pop you can search for videos on the other people in the Venn Diagram, search YouTube or check out books from the library. You can also insert a rectangle over any of the figures and add your own people you would like your students to compare and contrast with.
• Birthday Presents for MLK Tap on the birthday presents to reveal gifts we can give one another that would make MLK happy.
• Graphic Organizers (2 slides) for students to connect meaning from MLK's legacy and the world today.
• MLK Printables (3 slides) Use whole group on Smartboard and/or print out and copy for individual student work. Students are prompted to both write and illustrate to show understanding of peace and equality.
