Pair these activities with read aloud books from your class or school library, invite members of the community to come in who can speak to this very important holiday so that the students can not only understand the history or MLK, but also can learn about current events, progress made and setbacks encountered as well as make connections to how they can be part of positive change in the world.

• Bubble Map Work as a class to fill in facts/information about MLK. You can clone the slide and use as an introduction to see what kids know about MLK and then as a conclusion of your unit. Students can then compare and contrast what they knew at the outset and what they learned during the unit.
• MLK Birthday Calendar - Learn about his birthday - students use their calendar skills to locate his birthday and drag a dove onto the 3rd Monday of January. (I have included the calendar slides for 2024, 2025 so you can easily use this product for the next 2 years, and after that I will continue to update this slide so you don't have to update the calendar dates. Just go to your purchases in TpT and click to update when necessary.
• "Fill in the Blank Slide" - drag and drop the correct answer which is supported with picture cues.
• "Glow in the Dark" fact sheet. Drag the white box around the screen to discover hidden facts about MLK.
• Venn Diagram (4 slides) Compare/contrast MLK with Mahatma Ghandi, Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela and then have students compare/contrast MLK with themselves. If your district has a subscription to Brain Pop you can search for videos on the other people in the Venn Diagram, search YouTube or check out books from the library. You can also insert a rectangle over any of the figures and add your own people you would like your students to compare and contrast with.
