    Description

Four math races perfect for reviewing math skills like adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals or fractions. Classifying quadrilaterals, volume, and more math skills are also practiced in an exciting way. Students can race across the US, across the world, across the ocean, or across space!

    USA Race:

Groups start at Washington, D.C., and solve math problems all the way to California! If they miss problems, they are given a "flat tire" problem to solve. They are practicing math skills while reviewing geographical knowledge of the states!

    World Race:

Use your math knowledge of fractions and decimals to get you through nine countries, collecting stamps as you go! If students miss problems they must complete a "lost luggage." In Lost Luggage, they complete either a physical or mental task. Physical tasks have them laughing as they are asked to "hold a mannequin pose" or "sing a silly song." My kids LOVED this part of the world race!

    Space Race:

Groups start at Mercury and solve math problems all the way to Neptune! If they miss problems, they are given a "black hole" problem. They are practicing math skills while reviewing knowledge of our solar system!

    Ocean Race:

Students solve math problems to sail through the five oceans without going "overboard!"

Relate volume to the operations of multiplication and addition and solve real world and mathematical problems involving volume.
Find the volume of a right rectangular prism with whole-number side lengths by packing it with unit cubes, and show that the volume is the same as would be found by multiplying the edge lengths, equivalently by multiplying the height by the area of the base. Represent threefold whole-number products as volumes, e.g., to represent the associative property of multiplication.
Recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left.
Compare two decimals to thousandths based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
