Students will understand:

anything that takes up space is matter

matter is made up of small building blocks called atoms

atoms behave differently in different types of matter

Practice comparing and contrasting with something familiar (school)

then with atoms in solid, liquids, and gasses.

Ideally, students would already have familiarity with solid, liquid, gas.
