What educators are saying

Great intro to my social studies unit. Simple and on the easy side for my third graders, but it was a nice one day activity.
This was so much fun! I used this resource in conjunction with the book. We read the book, then spent about 15 minutes over several days surface researching our town, state, country and Earth. Then, after the research we would do that page in the flipbook. My learners loved it!

Description

This Me on the Map flip book is the perfect easy-prep project to accompany the book Me on the Map by Joan Sweeney or any beginner map study. Students will identify the planet, continent, country, state, and city or town they live in and begin to understand the relative sizes of each.

Prep is simple! Copy a set of the included booklet pages for each student. Students write in the missing words, cut out each semi-circles, and stack them from smallest to largest. Staple the top to complete the flip book.

Two sets of booklet pages are provided to allow for greater flexibility and teacher choice. One set provides outlines of Earth, North America, the United States, a city or town building, and a blank face to color. Students should color their state on the country map provided on the state page and draw an arrow pointing to it. A photo example is provided in the teacher note.

The second set of printables includes blank picture spaces for students. If using this set, students draw maps or trace them from a teacher-provided resource.

There are two versions provided for the first page in both sets. One uses the term “city” and the other uses “town”. Use the page that best matches your school’s neighborhood.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Extremely satisfied

"This was just perfect and simple enough to teach my first graders the relationship of the Earth to continents to countries to states to cities and then to themselves! They enjoyed making the booklet!" - Ann B., 1st Grade Teacher

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Extremely satisfied

"What a great resource for my Social Studies class. I love the fact that you can have the students fill in all the information or just the specifics. Having both first and second graders in one class, this gave me a choice on which one I wanted to use for which students. Thank you!" - Christian M., 1st and 2nd Grade Teacher
