What educators are saying

Thank you for this resource! We laminated this set and left on the math shelf for independent practice.
These were great for independent centers and for examples for whole groups. Word problems can always use extra practice so these were really helpful!

Description

Measurement Conversion Word Problem Task Cards

Do your students get enough practice converting between units in standard and metric measures? Having the ability to read a word problem and then do the proper conversion to answer the problem is a skill that requires practice.

Use these handy task cards, 20 in all, to help your students practice their conversion skills. These task cards, with answer key, could also be used as a scoot, a whole class review, or a conversion assessment.

You will find many opportunities for you and your students to share strategies and math thinking through using these cards. I particularly recommend utilizing the provided “Show Your Work Sheet” to allow students to share their math thinking with you. You can see below the list of conversions included in the resource. Many of them could require multiple steps to reach the correct conversion.

Practice converting between:
-FEET & INCHES
-YARDS & FEET
-METERS & CENTIMETERS
-INCHES & YARDS
-TONS & POUNDS
-POUNDS & OUNCES
-GRAMS & KILOGRAMS
-CUPS & OUNCES
-QUARTS & GALLONS
-GALLONS & OUNCES
-LITERS & MILLILITERS
-QUARTS & PINTS

I have included:
• 20 word problem task cards
• Student Answer sheet
• Answer key
• Show your work sheet

The Common Core Standards that these task cards address are as follows:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.MD.A.1
Convert among different-sized standard measurement units within a given measurement system (e.g., convert 5 cm to 0.05 m), and use these conversions in solving multi-step, real world problems.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.MD.A.1
Know relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units including km, m, cm; kg, g; lb, oz.; l, ml; hr, min, sec. Within a single system of measurement, express measurements in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Record measurement equivalents in a two-column table. For example, know that 1 ft is 12 times as long as 1 in. Express the length of a 4 ft snake as 48 in. Generate a conversion table for feet and inches listing the number pairs (1, 12), (2, 24), (3, 36), ...
