What educators are saying

This was a perfect addition to our college unit. they really enjoyed the movie and the supplement made it not only engaging, but practical.
I found this resource absolutely brilliant. It is such a creative way to introduce college to students in an engaging way. My students wished there would have been a similar version for Monsters Inc.

Description

Want to introduce or reinforce college-readiness vocabulary in an engaging way for your students? Check out this movie guide for Monsters University! I have used this with my middle schoolers in the past and currently with my high schoolers.

What's included?

  1. PPT to project as a visual aid
  2. Blank college vocabulary sheet
  3. Kahoot link to review college vocabulary
  4. 30 questions to answer during the movie about college culture and growth mindset
  5. 2 Free-response questions to choose from
  6. Answer key for vocabulary and movie questions

It’s funny because many of the kids have seen this movie in the past but never realize the plethora of college-readiness material that is in it. I typically use this after my college vocabulary introduction and before conducting college research and projects. I’ve also used this as my midterm exam to fill up the time but shhh! Don’t tell my administrator :)

Just kidding! My principal actually walked in the first year I was using this as a mid-term, seemed upset at first, but turned out to be VERY impressed when my 6th graders could answer questions and talk to her about what a major is, what it means to be undeclared, the differences between fraternities and sororities, as well as the type of student one should be in college.

Overall, this is a very fun way to get the kids talking about college!

Suggested facilitation:

  1. Project the PPT as a visual aid to explain expectations
  2. Pass out the blank vocabulary sheet and have kids fill it out while playing the Kahoot
  3. Have students reference the vocabulary when watching the movie and answering questions.
  4. Stop and discuss college-related content when it appears in the movie.
  5. At the end, have students choose 1 of the free response questions to answer in detail.

Thank you and happy teaching!
