About the Morphology Notebook – Prefixes, Suffixes, Greek and Latin Roots Notebook
This resource includes a variety of templates and practice for you to select from to create a comprehensive morphology notebook for your 4th and 5th graders.
Using the resources included in this resource will allow you to create a consistent (but also varied if you wish) morphology interactive notebook resource for your students.
You can use the morphology notebook to guide your introduction and instruction of prefixes, suffixes, and roots AND to anchor your students’ learning by giving them a growing resource to refer to.
The templates and practice pages included are consistent, predictable, and no fuss. All you need to do is have your students cut and glue/tape them into a page in their notebook. However, if you would like some more cut-and-fold templates, I have included options for those as well. Please see the preview to see the types of templates included.

Each prefix includes the following pages:
- a poster
- two interactive cut and paste templates
- a practice page with sentences that require student to find the prefixed words and create word sums with them (and write the meaning)
- a practice page for students to show their understanding of prefixed words
About the Suffix Notebook Pages:
Each suffix includes the following pages:
- a poster
- two interactive cut and paste templates
- a practice page with sentences that require student to find the suffixed words and create word sums with them (and write the meaning)
- a practice page for students to complete sentences with words that either contain the suffix or don’t – this will ensure they understand and apply the purpose of the suffix
About the Roots Notebook Pages:
Each root includes the following pages:
- a tree graphic organizer to collect words with the root
- a page with the root, its meaning, and a list of words containing the root (with definitions that directly tie back to the meaning of the root)
- a practice page with sentences that require students to select the word with the root that best completes the sentence
About the Word Work/Analyzing Words Notebook Pages:
In addition to the sections specific to each type of morpheme, there is also a section with pages that help students analyze multimorphemic words (words with prefixes and suffixes or words with multiple suffixes).
