What educators are saying

This was great! We loved all the tips and tricks to remember the facts. I used only this to teach multiplication.
Great resource that teaches students a variety of strategies to use so that multiplication is not dreadful!

Description

Math text books for 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders drive me crazy. One page of each multiplication fact, followed by a page or two of practice, doesn't teach kids how to multiply. I decided it was time to make my own multiplication program based on scaffolding. This unit starts slowly, with just a few problems on each page. Each step is designed for success. Pages are filled with pictures to color, and appealing birds to hold attention and ease the stress that often comes with learning multiplication.

Each new set of facts is presented with a "hook" to help students figure out, and memorize the facts. The goal is to convince each student that multiplication is really easy, and they can do it!

Use addition to find the total number of objects arranged in rectangular arrays with up to 5 rows and up to 5 columns; write an equation to express the total as a sum of equal addends.
Interpret products of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 5 × 7 as the total number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a total number of objects can be expressed as 5 × 7.
Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
