What educators are saying

Great resource. There is a typo on one of the ads (it says Gape instead of Grapes) but other than that, my students had a blast with this activity. It helped them review adding decimals and even multiplying decimals with a whole number.
This was a fun way to practice multiplying decimals and especially in a real world setting. There was a spelling mistake on the ads. (Gapes not grapes).

Description

Make multiplying decimals relevant! In this activity you have the option to use real-life grocery ads to get students thinking critically about decimal numbers as well as practicing their multiplication computation. Short on time? No problem, I have also included 2 pre-made grocery ads if you don't have time to gather up some. Students will browse ads to find the best deals on grocery items. They will have to calculate the amount it will cost to purchase a set amount or number of pounds of each food item. They will calculate their total grocery bill at the end. There is also a set of higher level word problems to go along with the activity as an extension option.

This activity aligns to the Texas process standard TEKS5.1A as well as the student expectation 5.3E.
