Use this New Year-themed figurative language activity to help kick off the new year while reviewing important literacy content!
While completing this activity, your students will be practicing the following types of figurative language:
- Simile
- Metaphor
- Personification
- Hyperbole
The students match silver and gold balloons to top hats labeled with the type of figurative language being used in each sentence. Each balloon has a sentence or definition on it.
Color and black and white versions are included to meet your printing needs.
A student recording sheet and an answer key are included in the printable version.
Use this activity for practice, to review, as a literacy center, for early finishers, or in RTI for struggling students.
About the Digital Version
There is a digital version of this activity for use in Google Slides. In the digital version, students will drag moveable balloons to hats on each slide.
