Newspaper Project with detailed lesson plans, rubric and template!

This lesson plan provides you with everything you need for students to use higher-order thinking skills to write and create in the target language. Everything is included: teacher instructions, student instructions, hand outs, grading rubric, suggested time line, and a newspaper template. This is an activity you can do with any level of the target language. For level 1, this would be a year-end, culminating activity, or you could modify the topics to fit their language ability.

Overview: Students will write articles or create activities of their choice such as a local news article, sports article, horoscope, interview a native speaker and write an article about him/her, write a Craigslist ad, make a crossword, write a comic and more! 15 activities are included. The assignment is worth 60 points, but you can easily modify the point value to work with your grading system. Each article or activity has a point value based on its difficulty.

Included are detailed descriptions of each task and a grading rubric so students know what to do and how to get an A.

A template is provided so the teacher can create the finished newspaper, or a student could do it as well. Students will take pride that they have contributed something of value to a whole-class activity resulting in a tangible product.
