    Description

    Newton's First Law (Inertia), Newton's Second Law (f = ma) and Newton's Third Law (Action-Reaction) graphic organizers that allow students to compile their knowledge and understanding in a doodle notes style! Give your students a welcome change of pace by leading them through the ideas and concepts behind Newton's Laws of Motion and then gift them with time to doodle and make those connections! These graphic organizers would be great for an interactive notebook, too! Lastly, for each Law is a single-sided student checking for understanding quiz to solidify knowledge ascertained during the doodling session. The quiz includes true and false prompts requiring explanation of choice, example/non-example identification and definition matching – perfect for rounding out the lesson!

    What are Doodle Notes?

    It's a method of revising or introducing a topic, coined by TpT Author Math Giraffe that increases student memory, learning and focus. Doodle notes are basically graphic organisers or guided note/work sheet, but with "brain-friendly upgrades" that allow students to make connections to the text/content in ways they normally wouldn't. Students make these connections by color-coding, drawing patterns, doodling and otherwise *owning* the information in front of them. There is no "right way" to utilize doodle note resources, but it is recommended that the teacher models how to complete the sheet and the students follow along at the same time. Students should be doodling while the teacher is lecturing to create those neural pathways. Doodle Notes is a trademarked term used with permission.  Please see doodlenotes.org for more information.

    Contents of Each Doodle Note

    + 1 blank student doodle note graphic organizer in 3 levels of completion (fully completed, fill-in-the-blanks and "empty" - "empty" is great if you desire your students to add their own notes = easy differentiation!)

    + 1 teacher answer key/example completed work, doodled on in my style of doodling

    Simply print off as many copies as necessary, provide students with colored pencils, textas or crayons and watch them engage the creative side of their brain!

    Plan an investigation to provide evidence that the change in an object’s motion depends on the sum of the forces on the object and the mass of the object. Emphasis is on balanced (Newton’s First Law) and unbalanced forces in a system, qualitative comparisons of forces, mass and changes in motion (Newton’s Second Law), frame of reference, and specification of units. Assessment is limited to forces and changes in motion in one-dimension in an inertial reference frame, and to change in one variable at a time. Assessment does not include the use of trigonometry.
    NGSSHS-PS2-1
    Analyze data to support the claim that Newton’s second law of motion describes the mathematical relationship among the net force on a macroscopic object, its mass, and its acceleration. Assessment is limited to one-dimensional motion and to macroscopic objects moving at non-relativistic speeds. Examples of data could include tables or graphs of position or velocity as a function of time for objects subject to a net unbalanced force, such as a falling object, an object sliding down a ramp, or a moving object being pulled by a constant force.

    Apply Newton’s Third Law to design a solution to a problem involving the motion of two colliding objects. Examples of practical problems could include the impact of collisions between two cars, between a car and stationary objects, and between a meteor and a space vehicle. Assessment is limited to vertical or horizontal interactions in one dimension.
