Nocturnal Animals- Nonfiction Leveled Reader- Level C Kindergarten Science

Finding nonfiction texts at an appropriate level for kindergarten guided reading groups is a difficult (and often expensive!!) task. With the increased expectation of kindergarteners reading nonfiction texts based on the Common Core Standards, it is crucial that teachers have access to leveled nonfiction books that their students can read (and want to read!!) With that thought in mind, I have created this book (and will be creating many more!!)

This book is written at an approximate level C. Many sight words are used to support early readers as they begin to read nonfiction text.The complete text of the book is included below, so you can see if it will meet the needs of your students.

Title Page: Nocturnal Animals
Page 2: Nocturnal animals stay awake at night.
Page 3: A bat is a nocturnal animal. it can fly at night.
Page 4: A firefly is nocturnal, too. We see it under the stars.
Page 5: Owls are up at night. Hoot! Hoot! Hoot!
Page 6: Look at the moths. They fly around in the sky in the dark.
Page 7: Raccoons are awake at night. Look at this black and gray raccoon.
Page 8: A skunk is a nocturnal animal, too. It can make a bad smell if it is scared.
Page 9: Some spiders are nocturnal . They will spin webs at night.
Page 10: Look at the nocturnal animals!

This book includes the same text on both the top and bottom of each sheet of paper to make copying, sorting, stapling, and cutting easy to create a class set of little books!!
