Description
This assignment is a set of 8 response questions for a paired reading of "Mother to Son" poem by Langston Hughes and "Dear Mama" song by Tupac Shakur. Poem and song lyrics are not included due to copyright restrictions, but can easily be found online.
Each question asks for a written response that includes text evidence. I suggest using this as a two-day activity in which students spend the first day doing close-readings of both the poem and the song lyrics, and the second day spent writing their written responses.
Great activity for introducing paired passages and crossover short answer responses. My students love getting to listen to and analyze Tupac in class!
