    Description

This product includes EVERYTHING you need in order to teach your students how to paraphrase.

Paraphrasing can be a difficult skill that needs lots of practice to master. It is not just simply stating that students need to rewrite the text in their own words. These 5 activities walk you and your students through the paraphrasing process so that students can become masters!

    What's included?

    1. Paraphrasing PowerPoint and Notes. Introduce and practice this concept with a PowerPoint or Google Slides and notes. Students will learn not only what paraphrasing is, but why we need to paraphrase as well as tips and tricks to paraphrasing. Students will then have their own opportunity to practice paraphrasing with 6 examples. Each example is color coded and comes with an example. You can also edit the text to change anything for your specific needs or standards.

    2. Paraphrasing Famous Songs, Lyrics, and Phrases. Students first are asked to "un-paraphrase" a famous phrase. This helps them see how to paraphrase. They are asked to do the same method with a famous verse to a song. Finally, students get their own opportunity to practice paraphrasing a verse. A total of 12 paraphrasing opportunities are given.

    3. Paraphrasing Telephone Game Students are given one of 30 unique original text on a variety of topics (anything from basketball to the giraffes to emojis. They then paraphrase that text. They cover the original text so that only their text is seen and give the paper to another student. The process continues until the end of the game. Like telephone, the final answer is revealed and compared to the original text. Students evaluate whether or not the text was paraphrased.

    4. Paraphrasing Task Cards 32 Original passages in color or black and white. Use this resource as a whole class activity, small group, center, or early finisher activity to practice paraphrasing. Example answers are given.

    5. Paraphrasing Worksheet. Use for either practice or as an assessment. Students will identify key words and practice paraphrasing a short piece of text and longer- paragraph length texts.
