What educators are saying
Description
This is an assignment that can be used as a test or a unit's final project. The assignment evaluates social science theories on families (e.g. parent-child relationships, parenting styles, the six functions of the family according to the Vanier Institute of the Family, etc.) The students are evaluated based on their application of the theories learned in class to the movie Parenthood (1989). This is an assignment that students enjoy as they are able to apply their knowledge to "real-life examples" seen in the movie. The evaluation of this assignment is based on the curriculum expectations for the Ontario (Canada) curriculum document. This assignment was used in a grade 12 university-level Social Sciences course but can be easily adapted to other courses and grade levels as well. The mark breakdown is included according to the achievement chart outlined in the curriculum document (Knowledge/Understanding, Thinking/Inquiry, Communication and Application).
