What educators are saying

I found this very helpful for my students to be able to learn the parts of an expression. The students were engaged with the content and found the visual helpful.
This activity was a great resource for our students in order to review algebraic vocabulary. Thank you!

Description

These 32 task cards cover identifying parts of an expression (coefficients, constants, variables, and terms). A guided notes page is included to make copies for your students or place in your math center. Ways to use task cards are also included.

Task cards can be used in endless ways to mix up your normal routine in the classroom. They encourage student to student collaboration and get kids out of their seats for awhile. Allowing the students to go from one card to another is especially beneficial for accommodating students who need assignments broken into chunks for better focus and those who need frequent breaks or the ability to get up and move around. They are also great for differentiation: choose the cards you find more challenging and assign those numbers to a set group of students.

Identify parts of an expression using mathematical terms (sum, term, product, factor, quotient, coefficient); view one or more parts of an expression as a single entity. For example, describe the expression 2 (8 + 7) as a product of two factors; view (8 + 7) as both a single entity and a sum of two terms.
