Pattern Block Activity Cards
What educators are saying
Description
These pattern cards are the perfect math center! Children identify, copy and continue each pattern shown using blocks.
This task provides children with practise identifying AB, ABB, ABC and AABB patterns. While working with patterns can seem like just fun for little learners, it is actually an important building block towards more complex algebraic concepts, such as skip counting, repeated addition and problem solving! By using blocks to continue the pattern beyond the pictures shown on the card, children are demonstrating their understanding of the pattern's 'rule' (which objects repeat in sequence).
To prepare this resource, simply print and laminate the 32 unique pattern cards. Cut along the straight lines and they're ready to go! (I like to hole punch the corner of each card and store them on a keyring for easy storage.) Provide children with a tub of plastic or wooden pattern blocks to copy and continue each pattern.
