Description

This is a fun lab for students to explore concepts such as speed, gravity, air resistance, & surface area by creating a penny parachute and testing its effectiveness. The download includes templates of shapes for students to use as guides as they create their penny parachutes. The lab works best when able to drop the penny parachutes from a 2 story hallway. The lab starts with a driving question: Does the shape of a parachute impact its ability to function effectively?

The lab procedure follows:

  1. Write a hypotheses & prediction
  2. Define key vocabulary
  3. Research background information
  4. Experiment & collect data
  5. Analyze data
  6. Analyze lab procedure
  7. Read and answer some questions about parachutes
