What educators are saying

These are so helpful for the students and I like that I can pick and choose when to give them certain ones.
My students love using this in the classroom. It helps promote independence and trying strategies before asking for help! Super easy to print, cut, and laminate to make little anchor charts!

Description

I used to spend big money every year at the teaching supply store on desktop helpers and reference folders. However, after a while I realized that these pricey “tools” weren’t all that effective for many of my students. There are very few one-size-fits-all solutions for students. I needed something that was more flexible, allowing me to target each student’s individual needs and provide each student with the tools he or she needed - regardless of whether or not those tools happened to be on the store-bought version.

My students always had a wide range of needs - some were advanced learners, some were ELLs, some were on IEPs, some struggled with math topics, some needed spelling inventories, while others still needed basic decoding intervention. I created these personal reference rings as a way to put everything each student needed right at his or her fingertips.

PLEASE CHECK OUT THE PREVIEW FILE! The preview includes a full list and pictures of {almost!} all cards included!

UPDATED 4/24/15:

In addition to the original 4 per page version, I have updated this file to also include FULL PAGE VERSIONS of each reference card. While the smaller versions are perfect for creating personal reference rings, the full page versions can be hung around the room for reference!

I’ve created a wide variety of reference cards, which function similarly to mini anchor charts. Print the cards, laminate them for durability, and put them together with a binder ring. I recommend that you not give each and every card to each and every student. Giving one student too many cards may make them more cumbersome and less useful. (For example, a fluent reader does not need to have his or her own letter-sound correspondence chart.) Rather, I recommend using these to create personalized reference rings for each of your students. This can be based on need, and the rings can be added to throughout the year. The reference rings are a great way to target the specific skills each of your students needs reminders about. As you introduce and review key concepts, identify which skills students are struggling with and print a card to add to their ring. The reference rings are a great way to differentiate to meet the needs of all students.
