What could make a shake and spill better? Pizza of course! This resource is so much fun. Students love making their pizza and figuring out the ways to make 10. We will use this as a math center for almost the whole year!

Description

This is a fun take on Shake and Spill to practice ways to make numbers to 10! Students will use double sided red and yellow counters to add "pepperoni" and "cheese" to their PIZZA! Students will add the counters to a cup, shake & spill, and then add the counters to the pizza. They have the opportunity to record their answer on the pizza mat and to record their answers on a recording sheet. I recommend laminating the pizza mats for reuse and using a dry erase marker to write the answers. Black and white recording sheets are also included

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Represent addition and subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images, drawings, sounds (e.g., claps), acting out situations, verbal explanations, expressions, or equations.
Solve addition and subtraction word problems, and add and subtract within 10, e.g., by using objects or drawings to represent the problem.
Decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record each decomposition by a drawing or equation (e.g., 5 = 2 + 3 and 5 = 4 + 1).
Fluently add and subtract within 5.
Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.) To add 2 + 6 + 4, the second two numbers can be added to make a ten, so 2 + 6 + 4 = 2 + 10 = 12. (Associative property of addition.)
